  • Design Methodology – 3 ECTS – 1st semester Principles of the design process and understanding the techniques that allow to analyze, synthesize and evaluate the adequacy of the results obtained on the basis of functional, aesthetic, manufacturing, economic and commercial requirements, without neglecting environmental aspects.
  • History and Context of Design – 3 ECTS – 1st semester The social, historical and technological context must be taken into account. The knowledge of the main socio-cultural, artistic and philosophical movements contribute to understand the environment in which the designer’s work develops.
  • Creativity, Drawing and Modeling – 3 ECTS – 1st semester Advanced drawing and modeling concepts and techniques for the development of creative ideas. Traditional drawing and spatial modeling techniques will be seen and an introduction to 3D digital modeling will be given.
  • Creative Project Seminar – 6 ECTS – 1st semester On the basis of the techniques and complex concepts acquired in the theoretical-practical subjects, a creative work will be developed.

  • Design and society To know the advanced fundamentals of sociology to understand the way in which design and technology interact with society. Integrate sociological theory and social science tools to the interpretation and understanding of design and its processes, acting as an integrating axis of the rest of knowledge.
  • Design based on User Experience Know and apply techniques for complex analysis that allow structuring design decisions with the data provided by the users themselves, improving the chances of successfully completing the process.
  • Sustainable materials and processes Knowledge of materials is essential for the successful completion of any design project. Depending on their particular characteristics, the most suitable materials must be selected in each case, according to their manufacturing possibilities, physical and aesthetic characteristics, availability and environmental performance throughout their life cycle.
  • Social and sustainable project A project will be developed that includes the main concepts analyzed, with special emphasis on the integration of the socioeconomic context and the experience of the users themselves into the project. Environmental variables will be explicitly included in this process, in particular the circular use of the waste generated and its energy intensity.

  • Digital manufacturing techniques The different methods used for rapid prototyping and product manufacturing will be studied, in order to achieve sufficient knowledge about the machine tools used for digital manufacturing (CNC machining, additive manufacturing, laser and other cutting and welding methods and 3D scanning) and the software used.
  • Robotics and electronics Based on the understanding of the basic electronic concepts, in particular concerning sensors and signal processing, their application to automation and robotics will be studied. These techniques are applicable both for incorporation into the products being designed and into the construction systems used in mass production.
  • Interactive development of prototypes The methods by which physical mock-ups are made in order to analyze the results of the design will be presented. In a first phase, low-cost Alpha mock-ups are made with materials that are not the definitive ones but that allow the evaluation of volumetric results from a perceptual or ergonomic point of view, or beta, to validate functional aspects, using materials and techniques similar to the definitive ones.

  • Internships Internships will be carried out in companies of the sector that provide a valuable training experience for the student.

  • Business strategy and communication The concept of entrepreneurship for business development will be analyzed and deepened. On the one hand, through the critical analysis of the competencies for business development and, on the other hand, by introducing the methodology to elaborate a business plan based on the concepts of marketing and market analysis. In this context, the use of communication techniques in project development is framed.
  • Economic viability and legislation The aim is to provide students with the legal knowledge essential for the practice of the profession, without neglecting the ethical aspects that govern the correct performance. In addition, the economic aspects for the economic analysis that guarantee the viability and success of the projects will be studied.
  • Web Design and Programming Know the advanced programming languages used in the design of web environments, either for functional needs or as interfaces for interaction with users and other systems, such as visualization and data collection. In particular, priority will be given to object-oriented languages, due to their simplicity of use for the user.

  • Master’s Thesis The student will elaborate models of design projects, using both traditional techniques (clay) and different digital techniques (stereolithography, 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, etc.), including models for the evaluation of automatisms or visualization systems. It is the subject that involves the realization by the student of an original and individual work in which the knowledge acquired in the development of the Master is integrated and reflected.
