Curriculum

The curriculum of the Master’s Degree in Illustration is divided into 60 ECTS credits and lasts one year. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG AND FEESConsult the Teaching Guides of the Master’s Degree in Illustration. Our courses are demanding and professionalizing. In order to access the Master’s Degree in Illustration and follow the classes you must have a previous level in digital techniques and tools. After the interview with the Master’s director, if you do not have knowledge in any of these areas, three complementary courses of 4 ECTS each will be recommended, which you must take before the start of classes.

This course deals with all the narrative elements of the Enlightenment. On the one hand, the fundamentals of narrative -semiotics and rhetoric of the story, construction of the members of a story and review of the universal structures of the story or the characteristics of a script- and, on the other hand, the application in the graphic representation of these parameters, analyzing the different structures of the creative process and the techniques and methodologies applied.

This subject brings the student in an exhaustive way to illustration as a reflection and artistic expression of a social and temporal context. Throughout the course, students will analyze its relationship with the changes and social dynamics where it is perceived as a means of communication, persuasion and propaganda linked to the history of graphic advertising from its origins in the nineteenth century to the present. Likewise, the course will provide students with a vision of the history of the Enlightenment as a source of inspiration, documentation and references, reviewing the iconic and rhetorical aspects in graphic creations.

In the format of a practical workshop guided by illustration professionals, different analogical techniques and artistic styles for the creation of illustrations will be reviewed through physical practice. For this, tools such as collage, dry or wet techniques, markers, etc., will be used, and their subsequent application to projects such as illustrated albums for adults or children and illustrations for advertising or journalistic purposes.

Anatomical drawing is fundamental in the construction of the members of a story. Therefore, this subject makes an exhaustive approach to the human figure, both in its morphology and its motricity. A knowledge that is completed with the development of the psychological aspects of the characters linked to their physical image.

In the format of a practical workshop guided by illustration professionals, the different digital techniques and plastic resources that technological programs provide for the creation of illustrations will be reviewed. Using tools such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Fresco, Procreate, etc., images will be generated that can be used again in projects such as an illustrated album for an adult or children’s audience or illustrations for advertising or journalistic purposes.

An ample space in the program is dedicated to the necessary aspects of audiovisual editing and post-production linked to illustration, given that it is one of the most booming emerging markets. This subject introduces the student to the analysis of movement and the style of animated characters for their subsequent application with 2D and 3D modeling techniques.

Historically, illustration has been linked to editorial development, both to support written texts and to create printed narratives composed, fundamentally, of images. In this sense, the course explores the conceptual aspects of press illustration and delves into the complexity of the elaboration of illustrated albums, both for adult and children’s audiences.

This course relates illustration with its applications in the field of visual communication and advertising. It addresses the specificity of advertising graphics, as well as its contribution to spaces such as packaging, digital products or its relationship with other design spaces such as interior design or textile illustration.

This is the course that requires the student to carry out an original and individual work that integrates and reflects the knowledge acquired during the development of the Master’s program.

You will develop personal skills, emotion management, project planning, budget management, report writing, teamwork and presentation defense and argumentation.
