WHY

Animation, as a precursor of cinema, is an artistic discipline where everyone can experiment with the illusion of creating life in drawings and inanimate objects.

It allows students to develop their imagination, and at the same time discover a new world with great job opportunities (nowadays animation has a huge presence in many film productions, video games, advertising, etc.).

To delve into this exciting industry, UDIT has created Animacamp, where attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fantastic and magical world of 2D animation for two weeks. They will learn the artistic and technological foundations of an industry that fuels creative imagination from university professors and industry-experienced professionals. They will utilize state-of-the-art computer labs and professional software and tools while working on an animation project.

Methodology and techniques

In order to maximise the learning process and to allow the development of a short animation film to progress throughout the duration of the course, the organisation of the course will be based on the following structure:

  • Day 1: Presentation of the course, organisation by groups (studies); search for a reference story for the production of the animated short film, or creation of a story of their own by the students.
  • Day 2 – day 10: (each of the steps will be performed in a specific way from the three animation techniques used as the basis of the course) 1. Definition of the script and characters 2. Preparation of the backgrounds and props for the short film. 3. Recording of the short film image by image. 4. Editing of the short film. 5. Recording of the voices and sounds of each shot, as well as incorporation of background music for the image. 6. Generation of the final short film and screening at the mini-festival of animated film.

Animation techniques to be addressed:

1. STOP-MOTION / PLASTICINE

  • Starting on the basis of the story defined on the first day, the students will deepen their knowledge of plasticine-based animation techniques in order to transform it throughout the course into a short animation film, using stop-motion techniques, where they will move their plasticine characters frame by frame.

2. CUT-OUT ANIMATION

  • Starting on the basis of a story defined on the first day, students will delve into animation techniques based on 2D drawings disassembled into articulated pieces to move and capture frame by frame, where students will test their skills in coordinating movements on flat surfaces.

3. CLASSIC 2D ANIMATION

  • Starting from the basis of a story defined on the first day, students will delve into traditional animation techniques based on 2D design to transform it throughout the course into a short animated film.
