Dr. Javier Chavarría

Director of the Master’s Degree in Illustration. An artist from Madrid, with a PhD in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, he alternates his artistic production with his work as a set designer and costume designer for film and theatre, an activity he has been carrying out for almost thirty years.
In parallel to these artistic activities, his professional career has developed in the art world, ranging from exhibition management and curatorship to contemporary art theory, a task that has led him to give many lectures, workshops and seminars, and to produce various publications in specialised media. He has been teaching drawing, scenic art and contemporary art theory since 1993 in different public and private universities, museums and art centres.
In the field of illustration, he has published several albums with the publishing house Blur and has exhibited his drawings at fairs such as ARCO and Estampa, as well as in galleries such as the Magda Belloti and Columpio art galleries.
